[resolved] Is it possible to change the WordPress charset? (4 posts)

I do not actually want to change my charset. I was looking through the Twenty Twelve theme files, and in the header came across this.

    <meta charset="<?php bloginfo( 'charset' ); ?>" />

This indicated to me that somewehre in WP I should be able to change some setting and actually change the default charset. Is this true? I assumed it would be under the reading settings in the admin panel, but did not see it there or anywhere else. Then again, I could have read over it.

If the charset can be changed, then where? What is WP's default charset? I would assume UTF-8.

This is strictly for my knowledge. I don't intend to change my charset. Just being curious.

Thanks for reading, and any help provided.

    hello,

Yes UTF-8 is the default charset

You cannot change the charset manually (in the admin panel)

However, you can change use the 'pre_option_charset' filter to change it from a plugin

    does it make sense ?
