    hi,

I am new to wp, working with 2.9.

I read many places in google search to replace ‘wp’ prefix in DB.

I am not sure if they talking about older versions.

So, my question is: is it good idea to change ‘wp’ prefix in 2.9 as well?

    Thanks.

  • Consider that every default WordPress installation uses a database table_prefix that starts with a “wp_”, if not changed by the user at install time. Necessary, no. Possible, yes. Good idea? Every little bit you can do helps.

    Thanks ClaytonJames.

I appreciate your help in understanding this.

which plugin (the one is simple and safe) would you recommend to automatically change the default prefix?

I tried manually but was not successful.

    Thanks again.

I have never used a plugin to do it, so I don’t have any real experience with the plugin method to base a recommendation on. I got into the habit of changing it at installation time quite a while ago. The best I can suggest there, is to read all the reviews and comments you can before trying one, and choose the one with the most positive reviews. Just make a back-up of everything first. Good luck to you!

Why is it a good idea to change the prefix? Is this a security thing?

It can add an additional measure of obscurity to your installation. Every little bit you can do might help.
