    Hello,
I've posted a post on WordPress and it's been indexed by google under this url: http://digital-horizon.net/socket-programming-tutorial/
Considering that I'm using WordPress SEO plugin by Youst and it keeps updating my sitemap:
If I edit the post and change the permalink, would that hurt the SEO? Will google automatically understand the change (either from the sitemap being changed by the plugin or crawler being smart enough) and remove the URL or would it just throw me a 404 error? If it does throw a 404 error, should I care or not?
    I appreciate your replies beforehand.

Yes, it will affect the search results...if unique...fact is they have tracked your IP and are showing you what they believe you want to see..clear all browsers's cache, search again, not same huh?

So Google is smart enough and I can safely change the link, right?

Only if you want YOUR results to be unique....

well if I don't want them to be unique then the user will be redirected to a page that doesn't exist. So yes, I do want them to be unique.
But how do I tell google this?

I think it would be done automatically.
