Does anybody know if Bloghosts.com is functional? I signed up yesterday, and haven't heard BOO from them. I'm a bit annoyed, as I ended up here after reading SO MUCH negative feedback regarding godaddy.
Anyhow...somebody with some experience clue me in!

I am a current customer of Bloghosts.com and I have nothing but great reviews of them and their service.

It might be related to that. I'd suggest e-mailing info@bloghosts.com
    and asking.

I signed up two days ago as well. No response. I also emailed info@bloghosts.com, emergency@bloghosts.com, AND each of the 3 team members personally.
    No response.
I'm pissed. They have 20 bucks of mine. I either want the service, or I want my money back.

I am hosted by bloghosts. I had an issue a few weeks ago (around the time the boards went down) and haven't received any reply. I've contacted all of the possible email addresses too. I've since resolved the issue on my own. But I'm concerned about the status of this service because their site hasn't been updated in about 2 weeks. Does anyone have info?

Nope, not anything besides the fact that they have 20 of my dollars and I want them back. I filed a claim with PayPal and they're investigating the issue.

i am using bloghosts for several accounts and feeling nervous about it. though uptime and overall value has been good, service bugs and inexcusable delays have been mounting as of late.
as much as i like smaller hosts in principle, i would caution all about signing up with any host that seems ill-suited towards rapid growth. i'd also say that any host without chat or phone support --relying strictly on email as does bloghosts-- is one that is vulnerable to slow turnarounds.

Hi! I´m looking for a new alternativeto bloghosts. I want wordpress installation via fantastico and all the nice cpanel options i had at bloghosts. Alltogether for a good price and, extremly important, with a good support. Any suggestions?

    This company could be good:
    http://weblogs.us/
As with all hosting, keep regular backups of all your data.

I am going to switch hosting companies as well. I have had some issues lately with Bloghosts and never got a reply about them. Really sad, they were a great hosting company when I first joined them and very prompt with support answers.

Bloghosts is effectively gone, and they'll be completely gone in Jan 2005.
charle97 has the hosts link above.

I decided to go with total choice hosting. Pretty painless transfer. I'm pleased so far, but it's only been 1 day. :-) Bloghosts is supposedly providing refunds...I'm not holding my breath on that one.

Really sad that Bloghosts went down the way they did. Great company when I first joined them, then after a few months everything went downhill so fast I didn't even know what happened.
I am now using Dreamhost. Wonderful hosting company that I have noticed being used by many popular bloggers. Let's hope I'm right about this one.

I've used Dreamhost for over three years now and have always gotten prompt attention to support requests and have been very happy with them.

Has anyone actually gotten a reply from Jace?
I sent an email yesterday because I JUST found out. Had I not read it on a website, I would never have known and not gotten my money.
Should I file a claim with Paypal? Something stinks here.

Don't expect to get anything back from Jace. I have been emailing him since last week (since finding out about the closure) and haven't heard a thing from him. He won't transfer my domain and he even shut down DNS to the phoenix server, so my site is essentially toast. Luckliy, I was able to get into my CPanel and download everything. Everyone is pretty much saying he is long gone. I am hoping they are wrong and he decides to actually be tactful about all of this.

I'd file a claim with PayPal and which ever group you're using the pay through PayPal (bank, credit card, etc).

I too was with Bloghosts. I liked their service when it was working, but the shutdown has been handled awfully.
I too registered my domain name through them but cannot seem to get it back. I made the jump, hastily, to Blogmoxie, which is not at all as full-featured as many other hosts out there.
What can I do about my domain name, or am I just stuck?

Jdunavin, try moving to real webhost instead. Like DreamHost.com .

Hmmm... not sure about the advice to "stay away from all hosts with blog in their name," since I own and have run Blogomania for close to 3 years without any problems. It is my full time job, and I have a good support team to help keep things up and running. We have a record of almost no downtime (never say never, it will come back to haunt you) and have close to 400 satisfied clients.
We offer both cPanel and Fantastico; WordPress installs take a matter of minutes, everything is ready on the server for you and it is configured for your needs already.
And I don't just support WordPress clients ... I use WordPress myself.
I understand the pain involved in moving a website, so the day I heard about Bloghosts closing down, I made the offer of the first month of hosting *FREE* with Blogomania for any Bloghost clients. Also, with access to your current cPanel, we can assist you with migrating your site. (Unfortunately, the cPanel migration script is not able to run on the Bloghost servers, so moves must be done manually.)
If any WordPress users would like to try out our services - whether they come from Bloghosts or not - please let me know. I will gladly extend that 1 month FREE offer to you also. (Offer good through Dec. 31, 2004. You must sign up by that date and reference this post as how you "found" Blogomania.)

Another satisfied http://www.LivingDot.com user here, they are just like Mercedes-Benz - "Unlike any other" :) Best host I've had so far, and I've been with quite a few. Trust me on this one.
Some of the things I liked about them is, of course, support, but also - my blog site was running in less than 30 minutes after signing up! Domain name propagated in like 5 minutes! Amazing.

The people behind bloghosts are a bunch of [Moderated]. Signed up with them last year, never had the service, never had my money back. Never had one email answered either. I can't understand why someone would want to be worldwide known as a [Moderated]. But it's just what they are. [Moderated].

It's too bad your web host is not performing.

I always suggest making sure that your domain name (a) is registered to you (b) somewhere other than your web host.

The reason for (a) is obvious; and as to (b): you may be with the same web host forever, and you may need to move your site fast. That's done much easier and faster if your domain name is registered elsewhere. No arguments, no delay ... just repointing it to a new web hosting account.
