I spend about an hour or two every day writing posts – which is great fun, but then I spend the rest of my life updating plugins, WordPress core etc… And what makes it even funnier is I write websites in Drupal as well – get a load of that!
The Sauron plugin is the most important plugin that could be written for WordPress.

Not sure that this is such a good idea. Compatibility varies so widely from plugin to plugin that I prefer to upgrade on a 1-by-1 basis so I can catch problems quickly. Mass upgrading might just cause a lot more angst.
Well at least you will be happy that Version 2.9 should have the ability to update all plugins and core at one time. Ryan calls it the Grand Unified Upgrader https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/10973
