Iphone app not connecting (61 posts)

    I had the WP app installed on my iPhone 1st gen 2.0 firmware and everything worked fine on both mine and my associates websites on different domains. Last night I upgraded to 2.0.1 and have been getting the same xmlrpc error for both domains. Later tonight or tomorrow I'm going to try to restore the phone back to 2.0 and see if that resolves the issue for me, all other advice and help/FAQ's I've read haven't resolved it, and the phone's firmware the only thing that has changed. We are using WP 2.6 on both domains.

    Interestingly enough, I've installed 2 independent instances of wordpress on this box and both exhibit the same error messages.

    so messed around some more with things. Still getting the "can't find the xmlrpc" error. Tried everything so far on the faq http://iphone.wordpress.org/faq/ and everything is checking out fine.

    Then I got to thinking about how my domain I am having issues is loaded with stuff. It was static before I went the wordpress route and I have a reroute link there if folks try to hit http://www.beerorkid.com/index.htm which will route them to the index.php
    (did that cuz of many links out there on the internets that pointed to the index.htm )

    this is the code of the index.htm redirect:
    <meta http-equiv='Refresh' Content='0;URL=http://www.beerorkid.com/index.php'>

    When I changed the name of the index.htm for a bit I ended up getting a different error. "nsxmlparsererrordomain error 5"

    SO I am thinking my redirect might have something to do with it.
    Thing is I had no problems posting with the first version of this wordpress iphone app.

    I also get the "nsxmlparsererrordomain error 5" error when I don't add http:// to the blog address on the iphone app.

    I just upgraded to WP 2.6.1, still having the same problem. It takes about 3 minutes to load the http://www.mydomain.com/xmlrpc.php?rsd URL in a browser. My other blog running 2.5.1 loads that URL quickly, and also can be loaded into the iPhone app.

    Someone please help! I wanna start blogging with my iPhone already...

    Thanks

    honestly this is a true disappointment that this app was release with these issues...

    I had this same problem and it was driving me crazy. Turns out the theme I was using had non-UTF8 characters in it. Once I removed them from the theme the app worked great! Changing to another theme would have worked as well.

    Just follow the FAQ for the iphone app and use the w3m validator - if you get a UTF8 error you know what the problem is.

    No UTF errors at all. I've even tried switching back to the default theme. No go. Im at a loss here...

    Same problem ...
    It was working when I was in iPhone firmware 2.0.1 with the WordPress 2.6.
    I'm now in 2.0.2 and 2.6.1 and nothing is working !
    I tried in firware 2.0 and 2.0.1 ... Nothing !
    I tried WordPress 2.5.1 and 2.6 ... Nothing !
    When I type mydomain.com/xmlrpc.php : XML-RPC server accepts POST requests only.
    But when I type mydomain.com/xmlrpc.php?rsd : Error 500 !
    I don't understand what changed ...
    My server ? Doesn't support xml-rpc transfer anymore ?

    Just found !!!!!

    http://www.hyam.net/blog/?p=11

    I just deleted these lines in the xmlrpc.php file

    <api name="Movable Type" blogID="1" preferred="false" apiLink="<?php bloginfo_rss('wpurl') ?>/xmlrpc.php" />
    <api name="MetaWeblog" blogID="1" preferred="false" apiLink="<?php bloginfo_rss('wpurl') ?>/xmlrpc.php" />
    <api name="Blogger" blogID="1" preferred="false" apiLink="<?php bloginfo_rss('wpurl') ?>/xmlrpc.php" />
    <api name="Atom" blogID="" preferred="false" apiLink="<?php echo apply_filters('atom_service_url', (get_bloginfo('url')."/wp-app.php/service"))?>" />

    I just left the WordPress line.
    And that's working !

    A number of fixes have gone into the app, hopefully a new version will be available at the store soon.

    I was also getting the XML-RPC error message, i got it working by inserting this link: <link rel="EditURI" type="application/rsd+xml" title="RSD" href="http://www.YOURDOMAIN.com/xmlrpc.php?rsd" />. It is outputted by the <?php wp_head(); ?> in header.php.

    Not sure if this will work for anyone else, however seemed worth a shot telling everyone about it as some of you were getting positive results when changing themes.

    @jord_t -

    Did you not have the edituri line in the HTML output of your blog already? Did you remove the wp_head() call in your theme? I recommend against removing the wp_head() call, many XML-RPC clients depend on the edituri line.

    wordpress 2.6.3 here.
    WP for iPhone 1.1.
    TriRunWith.US - self hosted blog at 1and1.com

    same error as everyone else. too lazy to try anything but editing the XMLRPC file - did not make any change for me.

    if i type in website domain WITHOUT "http://" in the "Blog URL" field, when i hit save, it dumps me directly back to home screen.

    if i type in "http://MYDOMAIN.COM" (adding the 'http://') i get the error message.

    seems sort of weird that if you go from a working client to a broken one, that the fix should be pretty easy to find? i guess not.

    will check back in a month or so, or when 1.2 comes out, which ever comes first.

    if yall could get that fixed and the wonky flash image uploader fixed i will be a happy blogger.

    whats weird is that with other apps such as blogwriter it DOES work

    One thing I noticed on your blog is that the RSD link is only listing the path portion of the URL (/xmlrpc.php?rsd instead of example.com/xmlrpc.php?rsd). I suspect this is the reason why the iphone app can't find your XML-RPC end point correctly.

    Hello all,

    I have been following this thread with some interest. I have 2 self-hosted WP blogs, one in 2.5.1 and one in 2.6.2, and WP for iPhone w/v. 2.2 of iPhone. Could access the 2.5.1 blog using WP for iPhone but not the later one. Tried a bunch of the suggestions made here and none worked. I thought my problem might be that the inaccessible blog resides in a subdomain, and I decided to wait for the update josephscott mentioned.

    Then I realized the inaccessible blog uses the Members Only plugin, which has its own XML-RPC control (I discovered this by accident). I disabled Members Only, tried connecting on the iPhone, and that worked. Then I went back and reactivated Members Only, and tried to connect again from the iPhone, and that worked, too. Obviously if anyone out there has disabled all plugins and achieved access that does the same thing.

    The guys over at Dreamhost actually loaded my blog onto their iPhone. They sent me a picture of my working blog. Their iPhone specs are:

    firmware 2.1 on an iPhone 2G

    I have a 3G. Firmware 2.28 (is the modem firmware) and 2.2 (5G77) is the Version. I'm not sure which is applicable.

    Since it worked with their phones (2 guys did it on separate iPhones), it must be the phone.

    Any suggestions?

    What irks me is that I've had this problem for months now. My blog worked great with my iPhone....

    This makes perfect sense.... Now how do we get someone to notice this and see if they can't work it out so that the app will work again on our 3G phones with the latest firmware?

    Ok, GOT IT!!!!

    1. Make sure you have

    header('Content-Type: text/html; charset=utf-8');

    right under <?php in your xmlrpc.php file ( http://victr.ca/tech/apple/fixing-the-wordpress-for-iphone-xmlrpc-error.php )

    2. Make sure you have

    <link rel="pingback" href="http://example.com/v3b/xmlrpc.php" />
    <link rel="EditURI" type="application/rsd+xml" title="RSD" href="http://example.com/v3b/xmlrpc.php?rsd" />
    <link rel="wlwmanifest" type="application/wlwmanifest+xml" href="http://example.com/v3b/wp-includes/wlwmanifest.xml" />

    in your header. ( http://iphone.wordpress.org/faq/ )

    3. It should work!

    If you are using WP 2.7, after entering <link rel="EditURI" type="application/rsd+xml" title="RSD" href=" http://example.com/xmlrpc.php?rsd" /> make sure to enable the option in your wp-admin, under "Options", in the "Writing" section you will see the option for "XML-RPC". Make sure you check the box next to it that says "Enable the WordPress, Movable Type, MetaWeblog and Blogger XML-RPC publishing protocols." After that it should be up and running. Good luck!

    similar to people above, this is the only way I could fix it:

    I've tried all of the edits and fixes mentioned here and still getting no luck. Anyone else here still having trouble? My blog in question is http://www.driftingson.com.

    @shawnermaccom

    Your blog (http://www.driftingson.com/) lists 2 RSD URLs:

    http://driftingson.com/v3b/xmlrpc.php?rsd

    and

    http://driftingson.com/xmlrpc.php?rsd

    For starters, there should only be one, with the second likely being the correct one. When trying to view those URLs the first one returns a 404 error and the second one returns a 500 error. This isn't a problem with the iPhone app, it's a problem with your WordPress setup.

    josephscott- thanks for clarifying where to turn next. I tried so many hacks that I'm not surprised I've ended up with too much information in there. I'll try to get that second rsd to resolve correctly- however one does that (!). I'm assuming starting with the W3C validation site is a good move.... Aloha -- Shawn
