Hi we just rebuilt our site and are starting to podcast our sermon audio’s and I’m new to the podPress plugin so need some support. The feed URL that shows we are supposed to use is http://www.fountainoflife.tv/feed/podcast/

When checking it comes up as invalid 404 page- no audio.

    1. Am I supposed to click “enable” in Feed/iTunes settings? By default is is disabled. Didn’t know if I’m supposed to enable that before submitting to iTunes or not.

    2. I saved all our media files (because they are large) in a folder titled “Audio” inside the upload folder. I see that Podpress installed a folder called “Podcast temp” should I be storing podcast audio files in that folder?

    3. We have our audio files stored on separate pages belonging to their own sermon series but the media files are all in the same ftp file so they will all be added to the same podcast correct? In the general settings “URL of the media files directory” I updated that to http://www.fountainoflife.tv/wp-content/uploads/Audio where the audio files are stored they show up just not understanding why the feed URL isn’t validating.

    4. If we want to add a separate podcast for video is there a guide on how to do that? I couldn’t find anything in the plugin area explaining that.

I understand enough about working around WordPress but please explain how to fix as if you’re teaching it to a 10 year old. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

No. I guess that you mean the iTunes:new-feed-url option. Enable this option only if you move your podcast to another location or if you want to submit a different feed URL to the iTunes Store.

    2. I saved all our media files (because they are large) in a folder titled “Audio” inside the upload folder.

    That is fine.

I see that Podpress installed a folder called “Podcast temp” should I be storing podcast audio files in that folder?

No. podPress uses this folder to store some data temporarily e.g. the image files of the graphs of the statistics.

they show up just not understanding why the feed URL isn’t validating.

The feed http://www.fountainoflife.tv/feed/podcast/ will be valid when it contains at least one post with a podPress attachment.

What does “add a separate podcast for video” mean?
It is possible to have a different feed which includes only posts with video episodes. There two possbilities:

    1. you use a category feed
    2. you use a podPress Feed with a file type file or a category filter

    category feed:
Add all posts with a video to a certain category e.g. “video”.
WordPress provides by default for each category a RSS and an ATOM feed. podPress gives you the possibility to customize those feeds. In order to do that go to Posts > Categories and edit an existing category. In the Edit Category view you can activate podPress Category Casting for this category. If you have activated this feature you will see all the options. One of them is also a file type filter.

    podPress Feed:
on the Feed/iTunes settings page exists the section podPress Feeds.
Name a feed e.g. “Video Podcast” give it e.g. the short slug name “video” and you will get a feed like http://www.example.com/feed/video as long as podPress is active.
Configure this feed as you like it and set e.g. the file type filter to the type of video files you intend to add. You could also use the category filter to include all posts with podPress attachment of a certain category e.g. “video”.

Thanks Tim, we have uploaded 13 audio files to the podpress. I have them on the 2 pages:

    http://www.fountainoflife.tv/media/faith-to-see/
    http://www.fountainoflife.tv/media/spirit-of-adoption/

I uploaded these in the “pages” section of wordpress using the podpress Podcasting settings of page. One thing that is weird is it only allows me to select one file with “RSS2” setting all others will only allow me to select “Atom” not sure why it’s doing that. Is it possible I could get you a login and you could see what I’m talking about?

Do audio files need to be uploaded in the “posts” section of WordPress and categorized? I thought I could just put the audio files on separate sermon series pages and they didn’t need to be categorized? Not sure if this will work as planned if I have to post these in the blog posts.

    I appreciate all your help.

Well, that is no bug nor random behaviour. It is only possible to select one file for RSS because it is not recommended and iTunes for instance recognizes only the first enclosure of a feed item. A feed item is here a blog post or page. You can find more links to more explanations about this issue in the FAQs of podPress.
(ATOM entry element are allowed to have more than one enclosure but iTunes would also pick only one of them.)

Do audio files need to be uploaded in the “posts” section of WordPress and categorized?

No. it is not necessary. But I would not recommend to add all your podcast episodes to one static page. With the raising number of episodes the page loading time might increase, also the loading time of the editor page of this page. Further have to live with the other problem (one enclosure per item).
The better way to have an overview page like this is to use a template of a category page and to attach each episode to a post of a certain category.

Thanks Tim, I was able to get it working by adding the audio to the “post” under audio category so it’s now showing on the feed. Thanks much for your support we’re good to go. Thanks.
