    I am very annoyed. I need a place holder image on line. I have the Breath theme installed, yet the opening page looks like trash and its looking worse for the wear.

    Can someone simply point me to the code in WP / Breath that permits me to place a jpeg as the place holding image? I have scoured the WP pages and deleted superfluous junk, but to no avail, I cannot find that which I seek.

    I'm not sure what you mean by a place holder image, but these forums do not support commercial themes - in part because we don't have access to them for testing or use. I'd suggest you contact the developer of your theme for any theme-specific issues - we simply cannot help with those.

    Ok, so skipping the theme, how does one normally place an image in an index.(php or html) file using WP?

    Modifications to theme files should be done in a child theme - so that changes are not overwritten when the theme is updated:

    Then, depending on the specifics of what you want to do and how the theme is coded, you can modify the code to add html or php. For html, an image hardcoded would simply be:

    <img src="file path to image" alt="alternate text" />

    If you're asking how to put images into your posts or pages, this may be helpful:

    I know that HTML - I don't know the location of the index.php or index.html file.

    We have no access to your theme, so cannot answer that, sorry If you use a theme from the repository on this site, we can likely answer those kinds of questions.
