Intermittent error when accessing site (9 posts)

    Hi

    I have this site http://www.findaporsche.com and, fairly regularly, it's not accessible, giving the message:
    Internal Server Error

    The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
    Please contact the server administrator, support@supportwebsite.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

    More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

    Apache/1.3.33 Server at findaporsche.com Port 80

    I contacted my ISP and was told it was most likely caused by a .htaccess file. Now, I can't find such a file on my FTP.

    Any suggestions, please?

    you may need to enable hidden files in your ftp client to see it
    optionally use your host's file manager

    Thanks for the reply. Yes, I did enable hidden files but it's not there.

    More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

    Do you have access to your server log? An Internal Server Error is really just a generic message that means, "Check the internal server error log." Usually the error log will have a complete description of the problem, or at least something that we can work with. The next time you see an error, note the date and time and immediately check your server error log for anything relevant.

    You'll probably have to ask your hosting provider, but you can sometimes find it in your hosting provider's control panel.

    Hi

    The problem is still occurring and I've found the error log:

    That sounds like a misconfigured server to me. You should probably quote the errors and ask your hosting provider's support department.

    Thanks. I think it's sorted. ISP suggested the following:

    The error you are receiving is caused by running PHP through FastCGI, to fix this you will need to change the way php is handled in the account. Please use the following instructions to make this change.

    • Select 'Hosting' under the 'My Products' section
    • Click "Manage Account" for the hosting account in question.
    • Under "Settings" click "File Extension"
    • Put a check mark next to the file extension you would like to modify then click the pen and paper "edit" icon.
    • Under "Runs under" select the method you would like to use to run these files.
    • Click OK.
