IntenseDebate - When will it be WP'd? (6 posts)

I'm not sure if the WordPress guys will read this. If they don't, it's gonna be quite a useless posting. But in the hopes they will, let me go ahead.

I just want to know how long it'll take until IntenseDebate, which was acquired by Automattic a few months back, is more tightly integrated with WordPress.

I love the comment system, but it's seriously bugged. I mean SERIOUSLY. My trackbacks, for example, do not show anywhere I know about. The service keeps logging me out when I try to comment on my own blog (I have to refresh the page and login again, after, of course, ctrl+c'ing my comment so I won't lose it in the process).

And their support guys, while really attentious and very nice people, are quite slow, if not altogether incapable, of resolving anything more complicated -- that's why I'm posting this here and not there.

Since WP bought ID, I'm assuming sooner or later it will be tightly integrated with the blogging system, probably even becoming the default comment interface. That's the reason I'm sticking to it despite the bugs.

I just wanted to know how soon -- or late -- that's going to happen. Thanks!

Think you mean these guys at this forum. You might want to post over there.

It's true that Auttomatic did purchase Intense Debate, but ID has a plugin that works reasonably well with WordPress.ORG's software.

Well, I'm running my blog self-hosted, so it's wp.org, right? So this should be the right place to post, I guess, if I want to be answered by a WP staffer on this matter...

But then again, I'm new around here.

For all I care, a simple email would've beeen the best solution. But the "feedback" and "support" links on my blog admin all end up here, so...

  4. Self-hosted, gotcha. Well, you are in the right place.

I doubt that Intense Debate will be integrated as anything other than a plugin. It's like Akismet: ID is a service not solely a software package. It would not make sense to tightly integrate it into WP as many self-hosted sites would prefer to keep all the data/code/etc. under their own control.

Akismet is bundled with WordPress.ORG's software since comment spam is a huge problem that all blogs need to deal with. Managed comments is not so much a problem so don't expect it to be bundled in anytime soon.

If you have not done so already, check out the plugin

    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/intensedebate/

It let's you use ID as well as keep your comments on your blog and on ID in sync. I have not tried modifying the CSS but it's also supposed to be customizable CSS wise so you may enjoy using the plugin.

EDIT: DOH! and I see from your blog that you already use the plugin :) Must learn to click first and THEN reply. But anyways, unless something changes I would not expect ID to get bundled anytime soon. You may want to subscribe to the WP-HACKERS list and ask there for confirmation as I am not a developer.

Yes, I already use it. It works, it's nice, the readers dig it. But it's also very flawed on the admin side of things, so my doubt is when can I expect that coat of polish that inevitably comes along in everything WordPress.

Ever since Automattic announced the acquisition of IntenseDebate, the service hasn't changed -- evolved -- much, and I'm sure it will, exactly the same way as other services like Akismet and PollDaddy have.

But I guess I should stop hoping for an answer from the WP staff here, right? Do you know any email I can use to contact them?

There are no WP staff per se at least not here.

This is an open source project and the many of the volunteer developers don't work for Automattic. Some do, yes, but it's still run like any open source project.

Try subscribing to the wp-hackers list

    http://lists.automattic.com/mailman/listinfo/wp-hackers

And send the list an e-mail via wp-hackers@lists.automattic.com

If you search the list archives

    http://comox.textdrive.com/pipermail/wp-hackers/

You may already find the response regarding ID.

And lastly, you can always try Matt via http://ma.tt/contact/ or even Intense Debate http://intensedebate.com/contactus

    Good luck.
