install.php?step=2 is a Blank Page. (9 posts)

Had to completely give up upgrading and decided to just install from scratch in a new database.

I put my database info into wp-config.php (double & triple checked it)
I went to the readme.html and from there to the install script.
Put in my site name and my email address.

    install.php?step=2 was a blank page.....

    Now what?

update: firefox gives the blank page
    safari says:
Safari can’t open the page “http://thinsoldier.com/wordpress/”. The error was: “Operation could not be completed. (kCFErrorDomainCFNetwork error 302.)” (kCFErrorDomainCFNetwork:302) Please choose Report Bugs to Apple from the Safari menu, note the error number, and describe what you did before you saw this message.

But I can get any other file on my site.

I looked in the database and saw there the wordpress tables were created and the users table had a user in it but I have no idea what the password is. Are the passwords md5?

Anyway, I added another user record with an md5 password. Went to the login page. that page shows up fine, tried to log in and just get another blank page in firefox and that same message in safari.

I overwrote the .htaccess file with an empty file and was able to get the front page of wordpress. Clicking the 1 default comment results in an empty page/error message from before (firefox & safari).

I then went to the uncategorized category page (http://thinsoldier.com/wordpress/?cat=1) in firefox and that page worked. Visiting the same page in safari gave that error again.
Visiting the same url again in firefox again gave a blank page again.

    Update:
I was suddenly able to visit the main page, post page, and category page without problems in firefox. When I clicked the header to get to the main page again it was a blank page again.

FYI visiting the site on 3 different laptops (2 wireless networks) and 1 desktop. I can access other sites fine (including other sites on the same server). I don't think it's a connection issue.

Sounds like a possible php memory problem.
Try bumping it from the default 4MB to 16 or 20MB - or ask your host if you don't have an editable php.ini file.

    From my server admin:

    Memory currently set to 24MB

I bumped it specifically for when I was trying to get it to run.

The syslog erors show the script is actually wiping out PHP completely
    with:

    ----------

    Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001)
    Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS (0x0001) at 0x2f746869

    Thread 0 Crashed:
    0 libphp5.so 0x032c40e8 shutdown_memory_manager + 0xdc

    ---------
    have asked endlessly in
support forums for help and got nowhere....
Never got any explanation as to what's happening.

Ok complete newb here, I don't know what I've done but my front page or start page is giving an error message :

    Not Found
Sorry, but you are looking for something that isn't here.

I can't access this page in the dash board either, in fact it's not showing up in the dashboard.

Anyone got a clue how to access it?

if you deleted the default "Hello World!" post then you simply need to create and publish another post and that message will go away.
