I'm new to this hosting and WP world.
I just uploaded the WordPress files to my domain hosting server (GoDaddy) and went to open the install.php with "my browser of choice" (IE) according to the instructions.
But all of the .php files appear to be text files and all I get is the html code. What next?

Does your server have php installed? You might check with your host or log into you hosted site, go to the admin section and see what you have as far as a database, etc.

I'm using GoDaddy as my hosting server. But the problem is that all the .PHP files open in IE as text only, just showing me the HTML codeing, and not as a website or form.

I'm assuming this step should get me a form to fill out so I can get started. But until then I'm stuck.

If the php files are opening as code, php is not on the server GoDaddy has your site on or your host has not turned the switch to recongize php files.

You should be able to log into your hosted site and somehere in the admin find server information to confirm php is installed.

You can test it - put an index.php file in the root and see if it shows up. Try the same with an index.html file.

I am a newb to web/php, and had just the same problem. I knew that my hosting service supported PHP but it was not running the scripts.

Eventually found the problem. The host requires you to put the PHP scripts in a particular folder. I had tried the root of the site and a new WordPress folder but sorted my problem when I read ALL the info from the host. They required it to be created in the 'public-html' folder.

Thanks for the clues ioin the posting that led me ot this.
