• I’ve been working on this problem for more than 8 hours now. Does anyone know why the install.php file can’t find the wp-config.php file.

  • Usually it’s not where it is supposed to be.

    i have the same problem. the wp-config.php file is in the main directory of my WP. please help!! i get this

    Fatal error: Failed opening required ‘//wp-settings.php’ (include_path=”) in //wp-config.php on line 20

    I am having the same issue. Just downloaded, unzipped the folder. Read the “readme.htm” file and follow the 5 minute install directions.

    Uploaded the files to the server and went to the “wordpress/wp-admin/install.php” file.

    The file returned the error below:

    “There doesn’t seem to be a wp-config.php file. I need this before we can get started. Need more help? We got it. You can create a wp-config.php file through a web interface, but this doesn’t work for all server setups. The safest way is to manually create the file.”

    Using the link provided to create the file, the application says the file is already there.

    Any ideas??

    Thanks,

    C

    Same exact problem here. Very odd. And the file is clearly there.

    There were two (maybe three) different things thrown into this topic.
    So, what exactly is “the same”?

    Okay, all day I am getting this:

    Error establishing a database connection! This probably means that the connection information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect. Double check it and try again.

    Are you sure you have the correct user/password?
    Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
    Are you sure that the database server is running?

    What can I do to fix it? I am using typepad.com

    I have this message when I click on the install file. “There doesn’t seem to be a wp-config.php file. I need this before we can get started. Need more help? We got it. You can create a wp-config.php file through a web interface, but this doesn’t work for all server setups. The safest way is to manually create the file.”

    I clearly have the file. It is in the root directory. My host uses MySQL. And when I click on making it through a web interface it tells me that I already have the file, too.

    Is this a permissions issue of some sort — although I do have dba permissions at my database?

    Thanks.

    @smartstartup,
    yours is a totally different error message. Please, start your own topic, don’t hijack this one!

    @citizenn,
    The DB permissions have nothing to do with the config file not beeing seen by the install script.
    Though it might be a permission issue on the config file.

    @citizenn, just checking that you changed the wp-config files name from ‘wp-config-sample.php’ to ‘wp-config.php’

    Yes, Marzaroo, I did. It really is a mystery to me. Especially that it seems that a few of us are having similar problems, but I don’t see this problem as occuring in past posts on the forum.

    In the past… πŸ˜‰

    Word of advice never say that is doesn’t seem to have happened in the past. Moshu has been here for a long time and know far too much. LOL

    Sorry about that. Need to improve my searching skills! Hope this will help.

    I went through all the old posts hoping to find a solution, but I’m still stuck getting this message when I try to install:

    “There doesn’t seem to be a wp-config.php file. I need this before we can get started. Need more help? We got it. You can create a wp-config.php file through a web interface, but this doesn’t work for all server setups. The safest way is to manually create the file.”

    But I seem to have done everything correctly — everything unzipped into the correct folders, etc. everything named correctly, I re-named the folder, and so forth, but it can’t find the file.

    Any other suggestions?
