   I've been banging my head against my monitor for the past hour with the "famous 5-minute install". Here's what I've done:

   Made a MySQL database called 'wordpress'
   Changed MySQL login info in wp-config.php
   Checked login info at least five times
   Put wordpress folder into root of local site

   ...and that won't work. install.php still can't connect. Any ideas?

   Thanks t-p. I did search the forum, but the only post I found that was similar to my problem had a shady solution: reinstall MySQL and set the hostname to my IP address. Aside from the face that I have a dynamic IP address even on my local network, that solution has worked for me either....
