[resolved] Installing WordPress to localhost (15 posts)

So I found my old backup folder which included my old wordpress site's files. I had copied and pasted those files directly from my old server to my external hard drive. I decided to check if I can get the site working in my localhost. I installed the wordpress by first throwing the folders from my external hard drive to my xampp's htdocs folder and by changing the old wp-config.php addresses to my new localhost. After that I went to http://localhost/mysite and installed the wordpress. The installation seemed to go well and wordpress was working. Plugins and themes seemed to be in place but mostly all other contents were still gone (pages, categories etc.). So I was wondering if I did something wrong or why are the contents still gone from my new localhost wp site?

Did you restore your old database?

I tried restoring my database using this http://codex.wordpress.org/Restoring_Your_Database_From_Backup
but at step 6 I wasn't sure what to choose. Any ideas?

Try installing WordPress on localhost/ not on localhost/mysite/

Usually on Xampp for Windows, C:\XAMPP\htdocs\

& If you would like to check a bit on:

That won't make the slightest difference.

@samex: You need to locate the .sql database backup file at step 6.

I didn't find any .sql database backup files. I guess it is impossible to restore the contents then?

    Hello Samex,
Did you changed site theme you were on?
If so, please active the one that you were using before.
If not, I can't say anything more!!

Well yeah I did that and the theme was customized like it was back in the day but the categories and other contents are still gone.

The theme has nothing to do with anything. Unless you have a database backup, you cannot restore your old site or content.
