• I have downloaded WAMP Server 2.0, which includes Apache Server, PHP, and mySQL that was highly recommended to me.

I FTP my wordpress site that is hosted by GoDaddy. I put the site inside the WAMP Server WWW directory. I verified that all of my website files are there by opening couple of files .PHP in my notepad ++.

My question is, if I want to test my site do I have to download wordpress? I would like to work on my website locally as trial and error as I am not an expert in development. I just want to test everything locally before I transfer it to the hosted site.

Do I need to make any configurations to the WAMP Server for my website to work? Is there any modification or I have to download WordPress for my website to work localy.

any other resources in reference to WAMP Server.

Thank you for your feed back

  • I suggest to install wordpress locally in WAMP and then you can perform testing on it and also make sure the mod_rewrite is loaded in WAMP (in case if you are going to use permalink locally). You do not need to do anything else to run wordpress locally. You just need Apache+PHP+Mysql support.
