I am trying to install a site for my client on Ipage. I keep getting this everytime. I have looked for hours trying to figure this out as well as put in a ticket with their support almost 2 1/2 hours ago and have got no reply. I have spent days getting this they way the client wants it on my server now it looks like I will have to install wordpress using Ipages simple script and redo the whole thing that is going to take a few hours instead of the 5 mins it will take using the duplicator.

  • Why not just copy the site manually? Usually takes me about 5 minutes to do so 🙂

    Dev Site:
    – export database
    – ZIP up the contents of the WP install folder

    Client Site:
    – create new, empty db and import the exported dev .sql file
    – edit the siteurl and home fields in the wp_options table with the client url
    – upload and extract the ZIP where it belongs
    – edit the client wp-config.php with the client db credentials
    – upload, run this script to update the links to the client url, then delete it when done:

Thanks but I got it after support got back to me hours later. So for anyone using Ipage they do not allow you to install wordpress (or I am guessing any other CMS) to the root folder I had to put it in a sub folder then it installed fine.

Allen, I’m having the same issue with iPage & Duplicator! After creating a sub folder, the folder name became a permanent part of my url. Worse, the url doesn’t work without the folder name tacked on:

    http://erinholmberg.com/portfolio/

I named the sub folder “portfolio” so that it doesn’t look like a glaring mistake. 😉 Sadly, erinholmberg.com doesn’t work alone, and redirects don’t work.

Did this happen to you? Do you have suggestions? Any info you have would be very appreciated! 🙂

You have to change the perma links stuff to remove the subfolder from the address and have it work. I will see if I can find the video I used and post a link here for you.

Take a look at this video.

Thank you! I ended up contacting iPage customer service, and they fixed it for me. haha. That video is really useful.

    Thanks again!
