No it’s not currently possible, or no isn’t possible at all?
Currently it is not possible at all 🙂
And I didn’t hear about any plans for such a feature to be introduced.
That’s a pity.
The company where I’m currently employed don’t have any objections to me using my blog during lunchtime, but FTP/SSH access to my site is blocked because of the way the company firewall has been configured. It would have been nice to be able to administer the site more extensively without such access.
Oh well…
If you would install a theme that comes from a remote server ,you will have 2 problems.
1. The site will be much slower ..
2. who will pay for the bandwidth / hosting of the theme itself ?
I suggest you just go for the simple solution of just using wordpress.com services..
They have a feature in 2.7 for installing plugins on the fly i’m sure it will be coming for themes very soon.
seurrep, you can use a web based ftp client..
For example:
http://www.net2ftp.com/
You can also deploy net2ftp on your own server, in case you are worried about your login information leaking out..
As for installing themes / plugins through the interface.. it sounds like a very nice idea for a plugin.. I will definitely consider making one myself.
