   Hello,
   I've downloaded 3.0.1 wordpress and testing it on my LAMP setup (http://localhost/) localhost.
   When I tried to install plugins it asks me for ftp access and host name.

   To perform the requested action, WordPress needs to access to your web server. Please enter your FTP credentials to proceed. If you do not remember your credentials, you should contact your web host.

   I'm afraid I cannot go to next step because it wouldn't understand my internal ip 192.168.*.*
   Work-around to this problem is you can manually download pluggins and extract them to /wp-content/plugins/

   Once loaded in plugins directory, it lists in WP-admin plugins section. BUT, you cannot activate it. When you click on 'activate' a message comes telling that 'plugin is activated' but it never get activated.

   Do you experience the same problem working on localhost?

   Notice the message on the top 'plugin activated' and see the details that follows NO plugin actually got activated- total inactive plugins 4 in my case.

   you could try getting a fresh copy of WordPress in case you have any corrupt files.

   You may also want to check the file permission on the wp-content, wp-content/plugins directories.

   Google "permissions" and "localhost". It was something with wp lacking permissions to do it itself.

   yes, it was something to do with the permissions at Linux.
