• After reading the “Famous 5-minute Install” I thought this would be a cinch.
    Negative.

I’ve spent more time than I care to admit trying to install using guidelines directly from wordpress and several blogs.

    Here’s what I’ve done.

    1)Purchased Domain
    2)Set up hosting at NearlyFreeSpeech
    3)Created the site
    4)Downloaded and unzipped WordPress
    5)Created a process
    6)Created a database
7)Opened wp-config-sample and entered in my information, username, password, etc… then quadruple-checked it was all correct
    8)changed the name to wp-config
    9)Downloaded the FTP client, Filezilla
10)Made the connection between Filezilla and NearlyFreeSpeech
11)Dragged and dropped the wordpress folder into the public folder
    —>here’s where it gets confusing.
I get a lot of errors in red: “file transfer failed” and “no such file or directory” then a green “new directory”

    It looks like this:

Error: Directory /home/public/wordpress/wpincludes/js/tinymce/themes/advanced/skins/default: no such file or directory
    Command: cd “/home/public/wordpress/wpincludes/js/tinymce/themes/advanced/skins”
Error: Directory /home/public/wordpress/wpincludes/js/tinymce/themes/advanced/skins: no such file or directory
    Command: cd “/home/public/wordpress/wp includes/js/tinymce/themes/advanced”
    Response: New directory is: “/home/public/wordpress/wp-includes/js/tinymce/themes/advanced”
    Command: mkdir “skins”
    Response: mkdir /home/public/wordpress/wp-includes/js/tinymce/themes/advanced/skins: OK

Then after it’s finished transferring, Filezilla reads 981 successful transfers and zero failed transfers.

    So it worked?

12)Different blogs say to check out different sites for the final step.
    I visited mysite.com,http://mysite.com/wp-admin/install.php, http://mysite.nfshost.com/wordpress, and even http://mysite.sshhost.com/wordpress

None of them are taking me to the installation page on my site.

13)Went back and put in secret keys from a secret key generator in the generic text areas of wp-config

14)Deleted the FTP Filezilla site and folder and created them again with the updated wp-config

    14) One blog mentioned a part that I had missed. I thought I had created a domain from the NearlyFreeSpeech site without going through phpMyAdmin. They went through phpMyAdmin, so I did all of the steps for that and created a wordpress user with all sorts of privileges. I named the database wordpress, as I had already saved the the wp-config file database name with the name, wordpress.

    15) Tried the websites and still nothing works.

    Am I missing anything?
