I am trying to get wordpress installed on my awardspace site. I set up my database but was unable to find the "prviileges" section. It says that the MySQL user name and my database name are the same. SO is that already set up?

I uploaded my files but when I try to run the install scrpt (by typing in the url location) I just get taken to the main awardspace page.

    What am I doing wrong?

OK, if you have already a website at the root - I assume you have installed the WP files into a subdirectory, right?
Are you accessing the install.php in the right location?

On awardspace they don't use "localhost" to connect - they use something like "db5.awardspace.com".
However, if you're being redirected to Awardspace the uri for your blog must be wrong from what you're inputing.
Check your install and make sure where you put it. You may need to do away with "index.html" as WP uses "index.php".
If you can't figure it out...

I am really new to all this stuff so a lot of it I don't quite get. I have filezilla and used it to upload my files. It did not ask me where to put them directory wise, it just uploaded them and they appeared in the file manager section (changed the name from wordpress to blog). Were they loaded to the right directory? Or if not how do I do that?

If the files are in the directory called "blog" then you should find your install at
    yourdomain.com/blog/wp-admin/install.php

Darn, it is still taking me to the main awardspace page whenever I type that in. I must be doing something wrong. But the files are all in blog . . .

Do you have a htaccess file in your root directory? Try to remove it temporarily...

(and if nothing works, see the link samboll gave you)

Thanks, Moshu, I think this is all beyond me. I will try the install4free and see if they can set it up for me.

    Thanks again!

The number of course will vary depending on what database wordpress was set up.

Or it can be checked by clicking on Database Manager in awardspace and searching under the heading DB HOST.
