Installed new Windows 7 64bit and 64bit version of wamp server and want to install a backup copy of my test website to wamp server I can only get a new install to work. I made a data base for my copy of my test site and it installed but it comes up as a new install and I can't see any of my previous files. New install is about 10mb my file has over 27mb but only looks like a new install. I thought when I activated the Thesis theme everything start working but no luck any ideas. I use wamp server to test
plugins and make changes before uploading to host.

You will need to set it up manually as with auto install it will install new tables on your database

You need put the files and folders of your test wordpress in a folder and add that folder in www in wamp

create database and import database using phpmyadmin and do not forget to change urls

and change database info in wp-config.php

I put the test file in the wamp "www" directory
I created a data base no problem
What I don't get yet is how to import the database using phpmyadmin
    URL is "http://localhost/testsite1/wp-admin/
I thought I imported everything correctly but I only got a
white page when I tried to log in. So I removed the password in
the wp-config.php file and it took me to the install.php page
filled that in I got a new install. Does your site have video
showing how to import the data base correctly to wamp server?

You will need to go in phpmyadmin program and create a database import using phpmyadmin and edit database info in wp-config.php file using editor

I have create a database and can see it but exactly how do I get the data base to work without going through the install process in wordpress. I'm new to this but do have good computer knowledge I just don't understand
yet how to populate the database without using the install process.

I have made a video on moving wordpress see if that helps you as the process is that same for database.
Watch the whole video I am moving wordpress from directory but you will be using the same process moving locally

Thanks for the link to the video I watched and learn a lot and I see
you saved the file a test.sql. I just copied the whole wordpress file with all the data when I updated my system and never save it as you did so I don't have a file to import how can I make a .sql file to import, so I can use it to populate the data base as you did it's all there in the files I just need to figure out to let the wamp server know. Is there an .sql file in the wordpress files that I can import? If not in what file does wordpress store all the pages and content I should just be able to
over write files in the new install with the pages from the old file some
    how.

You need to export the database like I did from your live wordpress and then change urls like I did with notepad++ or any editor your have and import the database in your Wamp phpmyadmin.

Do you mean you made full backup on server?

No I just opened the Wamp "www" directory and copied the wordpress file
to a different drive. I then formatted my C drive and installed a new
version of Windows then installed the Wamp server on the C drive, then
copied the wordpress file back into the "www" directory. Then made a data
base in the Wamp server now I need to some how tell the Wamp server to
see all the files in the data base and that where I'm stuck.

That is what you done wrong as you should have exported the database as well along with wordpress as all you settings and posts and pages are saved in database not in your wordpress.

When you formatted your C Drive you have wiped your database as well You will have start from scratch unless you have backup of database.

I understand that now, but the wordpress file I copied has all the files
in it from the test site I was working on and now I need to figure out how to get them into the new install of wordpress. I just don't know
which files to copy over to get at my saved work. I don't know what file
wordpress saves all the pages and post you build. A clean install of wordpress is about 10MB my copied file is over 27MB so I would believe that my work in there someplace it can't all be save to the Wamp server.

All posts and pages are saved on database they are not on your wordpress folder. You may have your themes and plugins and images which are saved in your wp-content folder.

Thanks for your help I'm a newbie with this server stuff but now I know
how it works and flows. This is the same way I learn the ins & outs with
computers years ago. Little off topic here but you appear to be about my
age, how is your website during? Does it make some money for you? I'm
semi-retired and I want to leverage the internet for my next business
    adventure is it worth while?
    Thanks Again
