    Hi there
I was hoping someone could help/ save me allot of pain.

I’ve had my wordpress blog for almost a year now and last night I tried to transfer it to wordpress.org via 1and1 hosting.

I did all the steps correctly, with ftp’ing and changing the config file etc.

I can access the back end of the site to upload articles, read comments etc. However when I got to the domain name to check it – It still comes up as if the site doesn’t exist.

I hope I am explaining it correctly. I’ve tried it twice and am getting the same problem each time.

I’m sure its probably clicking 1 button that I’m not doing but would be really grateful if someone could help.

    Cheers
    Eray

    Hi eray,

Was this another hosting company you transferred from. Did you migrate all of the files, folders, and the database? Did your domain name change? If so did you update the Site URL and Home?

    Hey Tim

No this is the first hosting company I have used.
originally it was http://www.cutthecap.wordpress.com and I purchased the domain http://www.cutthecap.com (at the moment I'm using it as a forwarding domain) through 1and1.

I uploaded all the files into the FTP and triple checked the username / database name / password etc.
then went to the domain with wp-admin/install.php and that all worked.

I then went through the steps to register my username and then logged in and was in the back end of the site.

then when I went to view the website, it came up with the 'domain registered' 1and1 holding page.

I'm thinking is there a step I need to do within 1and1? something to make it live?

    I'm bamboozled

So you want to migrate your WordPress.com site to your WordPress self hosted website? Ok, now its a little more clear. Is the domain name pointed to your hosting account? If you purchased the domain name separately from hosting, you'll need to change the nameservers for the domain so traffic for that domain will be directed to your hosting account.

Also, keep in mind that it can take up to 24 hours after you make the change to fully take effect.

you need to delete the 1 and 1 index.html in root to allow wordpress' index.php to work

    hey guys

thanks for this. I'll try both of these options.

I'll delete the 1and1index.html file, and then I'll give it 24 hours and see what happens

Will report back, thansk so much for your help guys..watch this space
