No, thats not true. It works with the existing comments system, you dont need do disable something.
To install open wp dashboard, go to plugins > install and search for social comments. klick install and after that activate the plugin. you find the settings for the plugin in the dashboard under comments- social comments.
On one site I have already done what @briesmi said and I can’t see the Social Comment submenu but on other site it works like charm. It seams it’s a plugin conflict. Do you have any idea what can I do?
try disabling on plugin at a time and find which one is conflicting.
