This is day 4 of frustration.... Downloaded the latest WP files and unzipped to c:\inetpub\wwwroot\wordpress\. Changed the wp-config.php as per directions. Had an empty database waiting on mySQL. Ran the install.php and this was successful.

The server is Win2000 on an Intranet and a virtual directory exists for 'Wordpress'. So addressed a browser to http://msi2/wordpress/wp-login.php

I got a nice login screen and input username admin with the correct password. I was given a screen that simply said you are not authorised to view this page. The address bar contained http://msi2/wordpress/wp-admin/.

In IIS, I changed things so that directory browsing is permitted. Now, when I try to log in, I get just a directory listing of \wordpress\wp-admin

I've checked the #siteurl# and #home# option_values in the wp-options table and they are both set to http://msi2/wordpress

I've read previous posts on this kind of topic and nothing seems relevant. I am a total newbie and I'll be very grateful if anyone can suggest what I should look at next. Oh, I forgot to mention, I've tried the wordpress-2.0.5-tuneup plugin but that gave another, different error.

    1. If you are a "total newbie" - get a host or a pro. This is not the place to learn about setting up your server! Administering a server is not a WP issue...
    2. If you see the directory listing - index.php is not set as a valid index page.
