    Hi,

I'm a beginner with this stuff. I just purchased a new theme for my WP blog/site. It look like I unable to upload it because I don't have the most recent version of WP to do so. I went to the Tools and Theme option but didn't see any options to upload my new theme. What do I do?

How do I download the new and updated version of WP?

How do I find out what version of WP I'm using?

Do I have to find an outside hosting service to upload an outside theme?

I woud appreciate any help! Thank you!

you can update your wordpress via your admin dashboard take a look at Dashboard -> Updates

you can find your WP version on your admin dashboard on "Right Now" frame or at admin dashboard footer, you will see Version x.x

    HI.

Thank you for responding to one of my questions. I looked but still don't see anything. I don't know why. I wish I can enclose a screen shot. These are the options I see on my main/admin dashboard:

    Home
    Blog Surfer
    My comments
    Readomatic
    Tag Surfer
    Site Stats
    Askimet Stats
    My blogs
    My subscriptions
    Connections

I don't see an update button or option. Nor do I see a version description on the footer.

are you using free wp host from wordpress.com?

if yes, you can not upload a new theme, but your wordpress version is the latest one

WordPress templates are free to use.You can download the latest version of WordPress at free from their official site. After downloading, you need to upload all the files to the root level of your domain using FTP.

After that, the index will start auto installation wizard. It will guide to complete installation.

But unfortunately,if you cannot do it by yourself, you can find WordPress installation for help.

    @Pepdeal- I'm still a bit confused.

I don't understand anything about root level, FTP's, etc. I know wordpress themes are free, but I just paid for an outside them and I want to use that one.

What is the easiest way to upload an (outside) theme to wordpress? Would I have to find and pay for a hosting site? If so, what is the point of having my blog/site on wordpress?

    Thanks,

    DB

    @blacklizt

    That sounds like a lot.

I thought I can upload the theme and start to make changes. I didn't know/understand all of this. :(

until now, no way to add news theme to wordpress.com host,
my advice, find a good host and install your own wordpress.

wordpress.com is pure free wp host, so there will be some limitations.

I saw that WP recommends 4 different hosting sites. Maybe I'll check one of those out.

I try create a space where I can have centralized data. But I guess that won't happen in this case.

wordpress.COM and wordpress.ORG are not the same. You're getting them mixed up.
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

On .COM, you won't be able to use plugins or edit anything beyond the included theme options. If you want to do any of that, you'll have to use a web hosting service to host your site.
