Installation through CPanel...Installs but get 404 when I click 'visit site' (9 posts)

    Hi guys.

I'm in desparate need of your help please.

    Very simple.

I install WP through Fantastico's automatic installation...

Installation is always successful, but I then click 'visit site,' AND..
I click the 'admin' link it gives me to go to the new blog's admin panel... it still doesn't load, it goes to '404 page not found' EVERY TIME!

Man! For the rest of the WORLD this is a one-two step...BOOM! DONE!

For me, EVERY TIME I'm unable to get to the admin page, and unable to 'visit site.'

Can someone who knows of this problem, or knows of it, and who knows what I can try to AVOID this every time I want to install a new WP blog through Fantastico?

    I sure would appreciate it.

If I can't get this solved, I'll never be able to add a new blog to my site.

    Please help!

    Thank you,
    Rob

    Thank you samboll.

I'd give it to you but it wouldn't work.

I keep asking my host to help me...I hate doing
    that.

But it's literally every step with putting my
site together causes me to go two steps back

Nothing works when I try it.

Well, maybe some out there has had this problem
too, but every click lately just makes me go two
    steps back.

    Thanks,
    Rob

I think I'm having the same (or a very similar) problem.

I published my post Tuesday evening and it still won't show up (I thought maybe it needed time to activate since it's my first post in that blog). When logged in as admin, I get a black screen when I try to view it and when I try to go to the public URL, I get an error message.

Any thoughts as to where I went wrong in set-up?

    Thanks!

ninabeana, this may solve it, it just did for me.

this was posted in a similar thread by a moderator...

follow the instructions, and if you don't have the "www." in your paths, make sure to add them in...that solved my issue.

Do you have the home directory set to the path of the WordPress installation for the account in CPanel?

    A 404 is a 404

I'm not very familiar with the Fantastico plug-in, but you may want to check to see if it's setting the home directory incorrectly.
