    Dear all,

I was having problems for a few days already with WordPress. I just found out that wordpress.com and wordpress.org are not the same entities. I think this should be explained somewhere when person can easily read about it.

My problem is that I read a lot about wordpress here, and I for sure was going through 5 minutes installation which is not user-friendly at all. Maybe it should be reformulated to another one to dummies, because I for 3 days haven't succeed to install it, or I did, but have no idea how it is functioning..

    What I need is:

    1. I have purchased domain name at godaddy.com
    2. I have purchased hosting at WebHostingWorld.com, and installed WordPress on it
    3. At godaddy I changed Nameservers.

What I don't get at all with all this WordPress stuff is, where the hell I should place my theme code, so that it become active ?! I place it in \www\webapps\wordpress\wp-content\themes. There are 2 more default themes. How do I say ok now I want that theme xyz to be active ?

Do I have some GUI like at wordpress.com so that I can actually change my theme, and how I change my data (on my local server and online) ?

    4. What actually installation of WordPress means ? Is it only support, or so to say some GUI as well ?

    5. At my local server I have database wordpress and user defined. Why I need to do this, if I want only to have blog without database ?

I am new to WordPress, so I don't find those questions stupid, but helpful also for another people which are trying to find answers to them, as well. I don't think I should read 20 pages of help or book, to get the answers to those simple questions.

Sorry for my tone, but I really had much problems with it already, but I don't want to give up.

Thank You very much for Your answers.

Have you actually tried logging into your WordPress site yet? Or reading First_Steps_With_WordPress?

You cannot have a blog without a database - it stores all of your blog's content.

    Thank You for quick response!

Ok, now when I am sure there is a GUI, Administration Panel, I should go through my installation again. Something went wrong, because I cannot do any of this.. :( Or, where is the Administration Panel placeD ? How I get to it ?

I have a wordpress database and user defined. But the database has no tables. Do I need to add some ? If so, which one ?

    Thanks!

    P.S.

Now I am reading all links You gave me. I see talking about Administration Panel, but not how to approach it.

I am sorry to say this, but I really don't find this Help useful. One should be easily finding needed information. It is not important to write a novel about WordPress, just to organize most useful information on one place. I think good FAQ will solve this issue. It should really be only 5 minutes, but for people like me, it can take days because it is not straight forward..

Thank You both esmi and govpatel!
I logged in to my blog! :)

But when I try to upload the theme, I get message:

    "Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@xyz.info and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request."

Maybe there is a problem with a theme ? I tried two different ones and I got same error. Is there any catch ?

I will for sure check Your videos, govpatel! Thanks!

When I type address of my website in browser: http://www.xyz.info I get Index of
with a few file, among web-admin, when I click on web-admin I get page of my website. Does this mean that I have placed code to wrong place ?

You should not see index with all files and folders.

looks like you have not installed your wordpress right.
If you want wordpress in root that is your domian name then you need to upload all files and folder in your root.

What do you have linux server meaning a cpanel or window server.
If you have cpanel then all wordpress files and folder need to be in public_html
