    Hi,

    I can't get past this issue and I've never encountered it before. This is a new install. What does this mean?

    Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_VARIABLE in /data/9/0/71/145/723471/user/738157/htdocs/info/wordpress/wp-includes/functions-formatting.php on line 531

    Thanks!
    Renee

    I'd suspect a corrupted file (functions-formatting.php) so I'd try to upload a fresh copy of it.

    I have done that three times already and each time it was from a fresh download...

    uh...try installing a fresh copy of the whole wp-includes folder. if that doesn't work try switching themes, if that doesn't work nuke the whole install, download a fresh copy and start over

    ... And, of course, make sure your FTP program is not in binary mode when doing the uploads.

    Sorry, I didn't know that. But usually that's the first thing we suggest and many times it works.
    Just for the record, in my functions-formatting.php this is what I have around that line (531)
    function trailingslashit($string) {
    if ( '/' != substr($string, -1)) {
    $string .= '/';
    }
    return $string;
    }

    531 being the "}" between string and return string.

    Thanks alot for the help! I downloaded the tar and ftp'd it and now it works great. For the record, I was using Frontpage to upload the files... Hmm!

    I was using Frontpage to upload the files... Hmm!

    That's a bad news :)
    Unfortunately, we never think people are in such a love with MS products :(
    Please, forget everything made by that company when you work with WP. No editing in Word, no copying text from Word, no opening WP files in FP etc. And you will maintaine your sanity! <wink>

    I'm not in love with MS! I was just being lazy, but I paid the price!

    Thanks for bailing me out!
