    Hello –

I’m installing on a FreeBSD, Apache2, PHP5.3.8, MySQL5.091 server, and created a MySQL db for it, configured the config.php file and uploaded everything. I’m working from a Win7-64 client and using a FTP client to upload.

When I point to the (URL)/wp-admin/install.php in Firefox, IE or Chrome, it does nothing – but download a small .php file. I’m the admin for a vBulletin website – so I’m familiar with uploading and installing php files – but this has me puzzled.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Sean

Oh – and I just pulled the config file out, replacing it with the original empty file – so as not to expose my passwords, etc. I’ve tried it with this file and the config file – same result.

All I will say is, I have found that just installing the XAMPP package, I have found, to be a thousand times easier. It installs an integrated Apache web server and MySQL database, and some other stuff, that all just works out of the box, and gives you a control panel.

For whatever reason, I found that when I tried to get it all to work locally as separate components, it was a lot harder. Not that you can’t become an expert at that–I just didn’t want to become one.
