   I just tried to update my instalation and got the following message:

   Downloading update from http://wordpress.org/wordpress-3.0.zip.
   Unpacking the update.
   Could not copy files.
   Installation Failed

   It could be a permission problem, but where? Any idea?

   I'm getting the same thing... I tried changing the permissions AND the ownership of the upgrade directories without any success...

   Try installing this: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/memory-bump/

   If that fails, try a manual upload.

   After putting some debug code into the class-wp-filesystem-direct.php file.

   The permission issues are with the wp-admin directory, wp-trackback.php, index.php, and wp-settings.php .
