[resolved] Install Script returns "create blog not found" error (15 posts)

My webhost uses Plesk 9.2, and I've successfully installed WordPress 2.8.6. However when I try to run the installation script (install.php) my browser returns a "create blog not found" error. I've tried typing in the full domain name + path to the WordPress folder, including the actual location of the install.php file, and selecting the install.php from Plesk's File Manager window in my domain. I even created a .htaccess file in the WordPress folder just in case. Same result.

I'm sure this is a simple piece of stupidity on my part, but I've searched this forum and several others and found nothing that addresses this problem. Any help would be appreciated - frustration is settling in...Thanks!

the install.php page should be called thusly, after insuring that the files are present:

    http://www.domain.tld/path/wp-admin/install.php

where domain.tld is changed to be your domain
where path is any subdirectory it might be in. if its NOT in a subdir., dont use a path.

Yes, that is the URL I'm using to call the install.php. And the file is in the subdir:
    http://www.mydomain.com/httpdocs/wordpress/wp-admin/install.php

In fact, there's a button in Plesk File Manager to open the install.php in the browser from that window. Doesn't work either.

I just tried removing WordPress and reinstalling (what fun) -- same dumb result.

    NO

that is NOT. Read what I said.

    youre doing this:

    http://www.mydomain.com/httpdocs/wordpress/wp-admin/install.php

    you want to do this:

    http://www.mydomain.com/wordpress/wp-admin/install.php

httpddocs is NOT a subdirectory, in this case. thats a server directory that holds your web accessible files.

    Okay...I tried removing 'httpdocs'...same result.
I tried it without 'wp-admin/install.php'...same result.

    Just to be sure:
    http://mydomain.com/wordpress
    http://mydomain.com/wordpress/wp-admin/install.php

Both result in the "create blog not found" error.

    I appreciate your help!

please step back and explain what this means :

I just tried removing WordPress and reinstalling

what are you doing when you do that. you keep saying youre installing, however youre NOT or you wouldnt be needing to load install.php

after that, go look inside your file manager, inside your httpddocs/ folder .. is there a wordpress directory, and are there files inside that directory?

    ALSO, and more importantly.

Both result in the "create blog not found" error.

You are NOT going to the url you think you are. That message is proof of it.

what is your domain name, please?

    if its here,

    http://bit.ly/tTh4i

you dont have the files located where they need to be.

What I meant by installing WordPress is removing the application from my domain and then re-installing. The WordPress directory appears in the Plesk File Manager, including the subdir wp-admin, and I can see the install.php file, including the options to move it, view it, and open it in the browser.

What I can't do is get WordPress to create/open my blog file for editing. Maybe I'm using the wrong command?

ok, well that domain isnt live. it doesnt have an IP. when it has an IP stuff will work.

simple traceroute ^ (what fun) -- same dumb result. (just to return the jibe)

Well, I guess that's the first step, huh?
I'll check with my hosting service -- they apparently didn't register the domain. <big sigh>
I'll resolve this thread if that fixes the problem.
    Thanks for all your help!!

It is a good idea to use something like http://www.network-tools.in to check if you can see the site both from your local machine as well as from a remote machine through the remote trace or remote ping function.
