Install In Main Directory Issue (help!) (2 posts)

I want to install WordPress in my main website directory(www.example.com and not http://www.example.com/forum). I tried to install many times through Dreamhost (my webhost, they offer a one-click installation). When clicking the install button, it said they would send me an email when WP installed. So 24 hrs later, no email. I have other pages and files in my main directory, is this what is causing the issue? Is there a problem with the installer?
The main reason for this is I want the blog to be the site's home page. I tried installing in a sub-directory (www.example.com/blog) and it worked fine, but I really want the blog to be in the root directory.
Any help is greatly appreciated, many thanks in advance.

You can install WordPress in a sub-folder and make your blog the domain's home page.
