First, Wordfence is working fine and installed properly. The error messages were WordPress errors during the install and I’m hoping for some insight on possibilities so I can advise my server host.

I installed 5.0.4 on several sites with no problems, but on one site that has been very reliable I saw errors after pressing the ‘update’ button. The error was shown two times:

Warning: An unexpected error occurred. Something may be wrong with WordPress.org or this server’s configuration. If you continue to have problems, please try the support forums. (WordPress could not establish a secure connection to WordPress.org. Please contact your server administrator.)

Each referenced a line in wp-includes/update.php, one for line 287 and the other for line 435.

The previous day I had installed 5.0.3 on that site and received the same message three times for wp-includes/update.php, lines 120, 272 and 417. Any ideas or suggestions on the problem are welcome. I am not literate on servers, but looking for ideas I can submit to server host. Thanks very much,
    david

I recently upgraded to WordPress 3.9 and I am now receiving this same error when I update a plugin. My site seems to be working just fine though, including the plugins. Anybody know why the error appears?
