I am unclear as to how to use this plugin, I'm not adept with WordPress as of yet, and I'd like to try to recreate the example of the sample page for instagram in the screenshots.

I am trying to create a page that displays the photos from a rss feed with a specific hashtag. Case in point:

I tried using [embed] the URL [/embed] and that didn't work.

    What am I doing wrong?

This plugin only embeds individual links for pieces of content.

like these two, for example (got from searching for Philadelphia on Twitter):

(The second one is video, btw - should work just as well)

This is the same approach WordPress uses for native embeds in blog posts.

What you try to embed is RSS feed. Not HTML document. Iframely can't parse it at the moment. But maybe we'll add it some time soon. Even if we do, we'll do it for blogs etc, not for Instagram's feed - it doesn't seem to have canonical addresses of content, only the actual jpg/raw images.

Sorry we can't help with your need.
I think what you need is this plugin - http://wordpress.org/plugins/alpine-photo-tile-for-instagram/
