[resolved] inove and widgets (4 posts)

I am using the iNove 1.4.6 template. In it, although widgets are hard-coded into the side, when I use the widget editor in the dashboard, no widgets appear as in use. Therefore, I cannot simply drag-and-drop to change widgets.

Is it practical to copy a sidebar component from another sidebar to get the "normal" drag-and-drop functionality? What precautions do I need to take?

    Thanks.

No - that's not widgets but the sidebar's default content when widgets haven't been added.

iNove supports widgets, so you may have a bad plugin that is stopping your widget interface from working properly. Try deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s). You may also need to resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

Yes, they are intended as defaults - I have one copy of iNove that works as you say - on the WordPress.com site. I was using it for testing.

However, I have a second copy of iNove on another host where I downloaded iNove through WordPress.org. The second copy differs from the first in it's handling of the posting category and tag information, in the spacing between posts, and in the sidebar. First copy has a single sidebar section and works as expected with widgets; second copy has a four part sidebar and does not work as expected with widgets - i.e. none are shown for disabling.

There are no plugins active at this time on the site that is giving me trouble. I'll try adding widgets to each of the four areas and see what happens ... see if that gets the editor back on track.

Thanks for the assistance - I've got it working now ... accepting a few quirks of the template.
