• Hello,

    Be gentle. I’ve inherited a site through a nonprofit I’m on a board of that has a blog and, though I’m a .com user, I am having trouble with this .org blog.

    The previous caretaker of the site won’t clarify any information for me.

    The WP software is out of date. I have tried upgrading it automatically but it doesn’t work because it doesn’t like the login information I have. I have done a manual upgrade but there are 3 separate WordPress folders on the server and upgrading the most obvious one didn’t seem to work.

    I can log in successfully to the dashboard using the username/password combo I have.

    Here is the question(s):
    What is the hostname/username/password combo for the upgrade related to? Is it something internal to WordPress that the original user set up? Or is it related to the web hosting company? I don’t even know where/how to verify or change it to see which component isn’t working.

    Thank you,
    Jane

  • Are you trying to login via FTP? That’s not the same as your WP info – and you’d need to get that info from the hosting company.

    Hello,

    Thanks for the reply.

    I was not trying to log in via FTP. I clicked on the “manual upgrade” button and was asked for host/username/password.

    However, I think I’m going to enlist a WP dev friend to look at all this. Thanks for your help. I’ve driven myself a bit too crazy.

    But I’m likely to be back later.

    Cheers,
    Jane
