   I'm a coldfusion developer, learning PHP and wordpress for the first time and I have a noob question.

   What function do I need to write to apply a filter to the_content that will replace [my_plugin] with the actual plugin, in order to place the front-end of the plugin on a page?

   This is a little out of my league, so this may be totally off base.

   I think that since the_content() typically (maybe always?) returns just HTML, you might not be able to do what you are asking.
