    Hi there,

I'm a complete newbie to this and currently have a company looking after my website.

Having been told that I should get a blog started, I did a bit of "googling" and found the best way for me was to host it on my website, so I created a new page "Blog" and added it to the menu. I then changed the settings under "Settings -> Reading" to point posts to the new Blog page and not the home page.

I have two problems which I believe are to do with the index.php and how my website is configured.

    1. I do not see any new posts on the Blog page. I believe this can be rectified by copying some of the code from the page.php file into the index.php file. I've tested this and it appears to work, however, this leads me onto problem 2.
    2. I have 2 post categories "recent events" and the "uncategorised" category. The "recent events" posts are shown on a primary sidebar throughout the website - all pages. however, when I change the index.php, both categories are posted to the Blog page, whereas I only want the uncategorised posts to appear there.

The company who host and designed the website say it will require a slight redesign to allow this to work as the functionality is not provisioned for on the current design, and this will cost money.

I don't know much about wordpress but I am technically minded (I'm a network engineer) so any help/pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

The Simply Exclude plugin should let you exclude the category from the blog page.
