Hi my name is phil and i'm having some problems.

I found wordpress through my host control panel on my host's website and said it had support for wordpress. My control panel did all the installing so I'm thinking this might be why there was a problem.

When I installed wordpress I did it in another name "Blog" so it goes http://www.philthurston.net/blog , but this doesn't work. As I am understanding when I go to that link it should go straight to the blog posts correct? but instead it goes to the index for that part of the site. Additionaly it seems whenever I click on a link it goes back to the index. When it click on various files I can get them to work ie: index.php works it goes to the Blog posts. Even when I am typing a new post it seems that the preview is that of the index.

So i'm wondering is it my automatic host installation the problem or is it some other problem you can think of?

Your server is probably not handling Directory Indexes correctly--either fix the setting for your webserver or put this line in a file called .htaccess in your web-root folder (same folder holding blog folder):
    DirectoryIndex index.html index.htm index.php

Thank you, but do you know how I would go about fixing the webserver so it doesn't do that? I ask just becuase it would be nice if this problem came up again to know. Thank you for your help.

I just checked the root folder for my blog wich is http://philthurston.net/blog and it has no htaccess file in it. the only htaccess file that is in the entire webserver for that domain is in the main file for my site http://philthurston.net
