    I get a page like:

    index of /

    Name Last Modified Size Description

That´s it – nothing more – no files listed

If I try to run the Install file I get 404 Not Found…

I´ve checked for installation mistakes, but I can´t see what it could be. I´ve formerly installed WP without problems on other hosts.

I´ve done it manually. The only thing I´m not sure about is the mysql database. I received username, host and password for this; which is correctly written in the wp-config file.

    I´m out of ideas…

Any helpful ideas will be musch appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Haavard Bergsagel

  • If it was a database problem, you’d get the dreaded “database error” message.

Have you checked with your host to make sure that index.php is recognized as a legit index file?

    Yes index.php is legit!

what do you get if you type http://YourDomain/blog/index.php ? (change blog to represent where the thing is installed, of course.)

    Then I get the 404…

My host accepts the following index files in this order:

    1. index.cgi
    2. index.asp
    3. index.php
    4. index.shtml
    5. index.html
    6. index.htm
    7. index.wml
    8. index.pdf

Which should mean that the .php ending is not the cause of the problem!

Haavard…. about the only time I can think of that you get the listing of / (as posted in your original post) is when the index file is NOT set up properly by your host.

Please email/call them again, and tell them you’re still getting only a folder listing – it seems to be a problem on your host end. If it was set up correctly on their end, you wouldn’t see the listing as you have posted you’re seeing it.

You can check to make sure the wordpress files are where they belong, btw, by looking in the public_html or htdocs or www folder (whatever your host provides) to see if the wordpress files are actually “living” there – or in a subfolder if that’s where you put them to begin with.

[Oh. A link to your site would be helpful.]

    It´s been resolved!

The htaccess file was not correct –

sometimes it´s the simplest things 🙂

    Thanks for all help!
