Increasing Default Table Size?

    I’m setting up a word press blog for a non-technical friend. The Visual editor has been very welcome and especially the button to insert tables in the visual editor. My friend likes to write in columns.

    My problem is that the blank table it inserts is defaulted to near zero dimensions.

    The result is a bunch of dotted lines smooshed together that is hard to tell apart. I have trouble seeing where a column begins or ends. My friend is in her 60s.

    Is there a way I can get 1 row, multicolum table to initialize with more white space in the cells so it is easier to see the columns?
