Increase Memory (1 post)

I am adding a lot of images to my wordpress and am worried its going to crash if I reach the limit.

I have researched the WP docs and forum and tried this thread:
    http://wordpress.org/support/topic/best-method-to-increase-memory?replies=3
however adding to config file, htaccess file did not do anything
and my host has set the php.ini file to max of 64 mb

My dashboard has 2 different limits:
    Storage and Memory Overview
    http://www.zenstream.info/troubleshooting/wp_memory.jpg

Is there another way to increase the memory size?
Can I store images in a different place to decrease memory size?
Can I turn off post variations to decrease memory usage?
I read you can change post variations to off in the config file but my config file has no setting for this? Will this decrease memory usage if I can turn it off somehow?
Is there another way to decrease memory usage?

Sorry for all the questions but I have spent many hours setting this up and want to make sure I get it right.

Thanks for any help or suggestions.
