Increase excerpt amount?

In running optimization and speed checks I’m being told that my html to text ratio is incredibly low on the home page of both sites I use pinboard on. I tried adding more posts but it didn’t help enough.

Is there a way to make the post excerpt that appears be a bit longer? Add maybe 10 extra words to each one?
