At wordpress.com, incoming links seem to come from other (and much more effective) sources. With a self-hosted wp blog or a paid host, we get those links from Technorati and most of the time, it works like electricity in Communist Bulgaria back in the fifties: one day on, one day off.
Is there a way to edit something in the code so that incoming links get displayed properly via Google or whatever?

There were a few incoming links, now, even the mention: "incoming links" has disappeared from the "Latest Activity" panel on the dashboard page.
I don't get it.
