Down the road, we'll be using WP as a CMS around our whole site, but for now, it's just being used as a blog engine and hosted in a subdirectory.

I would however like to include the blog's most recent posts on our homepage. What do I need to do to get to that point? Thanks

Use the blog's RSS feeds - there are plenty of solutions on the web... depending on the file type (extension) of your main site.

This has occurred to me - it gets the content on the homepage, but wouldn't allow for comments... which isn't a huge deal.

Even in/on the blog you never comment on the main page but on individual posts (we call it single post view) - so I don't see the issue...
When somebody clicks on the link in the rss feed - it would take you to the post anyway.
