In Discussions, why aren't trackbacks left OFF by default?

    I have a serious pet peeve with WordPress’ default options—

    Why aren’t trackbacks left OFF by default? Why have them ON by default? That is utterly problematic!!

    Why should anyone have to go into phpMyAdmin when this could easily and simply be resolved by having the option set to OFF by default?!
