Importing the backup to a new server (7 posts)

    Hi,

I'm trying to move my wordpress site from Mamp server to online server (Godaddy). I figured out that I have to import my backup file to Godaddy using phpMyadmin. When I put the .zip file there and press GO, nothing happens. If I import the .sql file that's inside the .zip it goes there but no files come up to the list.

Does anyone know how I get this import thing working?

Thanks for the reply esmi. Yet my problem is that I can't do what the instructions say; import the database.

Try unpacking the zip & uploading the .sql file via phpmyadmin.

    Hi,
I will help you to sort this out..

    1. Go to localhost phpmyadmin -> Your database -> wp-options -> edit site url from eg. http://localhost to eg. http://yourdomainname.com or www as favorable.
    2. Export yourlocaldatabase.sql from sample place (local phpmyadmin -> yourdatabase -> export)
    3. then login to online cpanel (yourwebsite.com:2082) - > Databases -> phpmyadmin
    Or,
Go to MySQL Database Wizard and create one if you haven't done that yet.
    4. On phpmyadmin -> yourdatabase -> click on import
    5. Choose yourlocaldatbase.sql and import it online database.

Now, install WordPress providing correct database details...

    &
If I import the .sql file that's inside the .zip it goes there but no files come up to the list. <<

You need to import .sql file not .sql file inside the .zip file.

Thanks. I think I got it going now.

Have to say how surprised I'm that I get answers to my stupid questions like this. It's great that you guys, especially Shakhar in this case, have the will to help.

    Hey Esmi

What about adding a link to the free plugin Duplicator to the Moving WordPress page?

Duplicator makes it a lot easier getting the site from local to live.
