[resolved] Importing Posts Saved As .txt Files (3 posts)

A year or two before I started my WordPress blog, I deleted a Blogger blog I had for years. I grabbed all my old posts from there and saved each one as a seperate .txt file. Don't ask why because I have now idea.

Now I'd like to import all these old posts (saved as .txt files) into my current self-hosted WordPress blog, which currently contains about one year's worth of newer posts. If possible, I'd like to avoid having to manually input all this old content, as that's just plain tedious.

I know you can import posts from other blogging platforms as well as sql databases, but am I just out of luck with wanting to automaticaly import these .txt posts?

WordPress has importers for a lot of things, and it's possible to write importers for new things, but there's no real way to write a "generic" importer for things about which the format could be anything at all.

You could probably write some code to do it, but it would be highly custom to your specific situation.

Too bad you didn't leave them on Blogger, importing those is easy.

Suggestion: Create a new WordPress blog, make a few fake posts, then Export the blog to a WXR file. Look at that file with a text editor. It's fairly straightforward and if you can figure out a way to generate a similar file from your text files, then you can import it using the WordPress or RSS importer.

Thanks for the tip, Otto. I'll give it a go. And yeah, it is too bad I didn't leave things on Blogger, but in the end, I wound up at WP, so I guess it's all good!
