   I was having problems exporting a full back up of my blog since it is 8 mb in size. The good folks at wordpress.com kindly exported the file since it exceeded their 2 mb limits.

   The challenge is that the wordpress.org import feature limits files to 2 mb or under. The suggestion was to break up the file into smaller chunks which I really don't wish to do but will if absolutely necessary.

   Suggestions on how to best import the backup file anyone? The backup file is a .xml (what wordpress sent) but the import feature asks for a wrx file?

   The 2MB limit is something you want to ask your host to increase or check the host documentation to see if you can do it. The setting is upload_max_filesize

   You should see if the XML does work as it was a file exported from wordpress.com.

   As always, backup your database before attempting to import.

   Hey Michael,

   I worked with my host to do that and it still didn't work as an error message came up saying the file was the incorrect type (xml vs wrx).

   I agree that the xml file should work as that is what wordpress.com exported to me.

   Since my new blog location is in the root directory, where should the imported blog info be located? I have uploaded the extracted file to the host and while it I can see it there it is not populating the blog at all.

   The host claimed that is because their software doesn't intuitively know where to map all of the posts, comments, links etc.

   Still stumped on this one.

   If all else fails, the WordPress export files can be split into multiple files. Load it up in a text editor (I use TextPad), and cut and paste several of the <item> sections off into their own file. Duplicate the surrounding channel and rss stuff into those files as well.

   Make multiple files out of it and import them all.

   Hey Otto,

   That sounds like the only way to go at this stage so thank you for that advice! I will let you know how it goes later on tonight.

   Should these files post into the wp_content folder btw?
